Intergen Silverlight Competition Winners Announced

In the months of May and June, Intergen ran a Silverlight application development competition to encourage staff to experiment with the new Microsoft technology and see what exciting new applications they could come up with. On Friday 6 July Intergen announced winners via a live webcast, with ‘secret’ prizes including a trip to Las Vegas in March 2008 to attend Microsoft’s MIX08 conference (Kelly Cliffe), and a trip to the Web on the Piste Conference in Queenstown in August (Glen Conner).

Winning designs included:

  • ‘Clocks’, an interface for entering time against tasks, involving extensive use of drag and drop for filtering lists (Kelly Cliffe)
  • ‘Tarantula’, a graphical search engine that sits atop the Amazon search web services (Glenn Conner)
  • ‘Trafficwarden’, a real-time traffic monitor for network routers (James Newton-King)

to name just a few of the applications entered.

Silverlight is a cross-platform browser plug-in for delivering rich interactive applications. It allows us to deliver rich graphics, audio and even video enhancing, not only for consumers but also business focused applications. Intergen sees the advent of Silverlight as an exciting opportunity to deliver rich end user experiences through web applications.

Intergen is among the first companies in New Zealand that are harnessing and promoting Silverlight functionality, and looks forward to bringing Silverlight’s offerings to their clients.
